Andrew Courageous Hopkins lived in a small village in the EngKsh colony of Massachusetts (más á choo'sets), more than two hundred years ago. You can find Massachusetts on the map on page 22. As you can see, it is a part of New England. Andrew's comfortable home was shared by his parents, five sisters, foinr brothers, and a grandfather. Families were large then. They worked hard, too. They frowned on lazy people. Indeed, they thought that wasting time was a sin. Even the young children were taught to do their share of the work. Everyone in this colonial family did his share of the work. What different kinds of work are being carried on?
