In Budapest, on the southem shore of Laké Balaton, in Transdanubia, and in the especially scenic Danube bend, we offer 41 hotels, 110 restaurants and 130 nightclubs, inns and wine cellars, and are at your disposal with the finest traditions of Hungárián hospitality renowned the world over. The establishment of our profession was motiuated by the noblest reasons: to offer accommodation, food, and a haven for people in a strange territory. Notions conceming hosting, the rights ofguests, and hospitality were already well known in Babylonian and Egyptian civilization and society asfar back asfour thousandyears ago: travel and trade are unimaginable without these. Infact, our name, Pannónia, is the name of the ancient Román province, part of which was situated exactly on the territory> on which our company's hotels and restaurants now operate. The basicsofHungárián cuisine date back before 896, the year of the Hungárián Conquest. Hungarians, who led a nomadic and herdsman's way of life, were already acquainted with the science" of cooking, spitroasting, the drying of fish, and the drying, salting and smoking of many different foods. They baked an early version of bread and brewed something akin to beer. Over the centuries Turkish, Italian, Austrian and French influences alsó contributed greatly to Hungárián cuisine, the best traditions of which have been incorporated into and merged with the originál. Hungary's favourable climate, terrain and soil conditions, as well as the availability of excellent quality fresh materials have alsó played a role in making the country 's gastronomy worldfamous.
