Gardening for freezing If you grow somé of your own fruit and vegetables, inevitably there comes a time when you have a surplus, and this is where a freezer is invaluable. By making sensible use of your garden you can save money, but if you are a beginner, do not set your sights too high. Do not try to grow enough produce for the whole year, this will result in a full time job, both in gardening and freezing. Choose the simplest varieties to grow and which freeze weil. For example:- Runner Beans Broad [Lima] Beans Carrots Peas Apples Blackberries and Raspberries Gooseberries Rhubarb Select 6 to 8 varieties of fruit or vegetable and aim for a 2\ kg (5 lb) yield from each to freeze. The remainder of the harvest should be eaten fresh.
