IForenordJim Smokeistening to the struggles of others is exhausting work. Most of us listen with our heads when we need to listen with our hearts.Hurting people make heart sounds. Our task as counselors is to listen for those sounds, pray about them, and offer wisdom that comes from the heart of God through us.Counselors today need a great reservoir of compassion. Our example is Christ Himself who was moved by people's needs because He "felt compassion" toward them. Out of His feeling for the hurts and pain of others He was able to bring healing and wholeness.Today's men and women who offer lay and professional counsel can do no less. Many who share their knowledge and expertise in this book I have known personally. They have a calling and desire to strengthen the wings of weary single adult hearts. Their passion for those who hurt has turned around many lives as they have shared what God has taught them. You will be enriched as you read this book and use its sound principles in your ministry to single adults.Solomon, wise writer of proverbs, sums up good counsel with these words:"Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise" (Prov. 19:20).This is my prayer for all those who struggle to find answers in their lives and for the gifted men and women who share answers in this book.
