INTRODUCTIONintroductionFeng shui, which literally means 'wind' and 'water' is the ancient art of furniture placement and energy flow in the home which has been practised successfully in China for several thousand years. In the West it is now much more widely accepted as a practice -people who hove embraced all the principles have found how it has improved the atmosphere in their homes, their relationships with their family, and, in turn, affected their wellbeing, giving them new energy to change and improve their lives. How does it work?Feng shui works on the basis that energy currents, known as ch'i, flow through the home. In Japan this energy is known as ki and in Indie it is called Prana. So, to get the best from our living area, these currents need tobe able to flow freely throughout the home and not become blocked or stagnant. The first part of this book. Energize your lite with feng shui discusses the different aspects of feng shui and talks about how ch'i also flows through our surrounding environment and our bodies. Therapies such as Chineseherbalism, acupuncture and shiatsu use 0 detailed system of diagnosis to find energy blockages in the body. They then prescribe treatments, tailored to the individual, to sutbtly manipulate the energy flow so that any blockages causing illness or discomfort are corrected or removed.Ch'i always moves in spirals and this movement needs to be encouraged in the home. Sharp angles on furniture, deep corners or beams can distort this flow causing straight poison arrows, or cutting, sha ch'i to be directed at the occupants.A home always needs to hove a good mixture of yin and yang qualities to create harmony and balance. Soft textures and tactile fabrics are very yin.
