Introduction Have you ever noticed how, when you lived in one home, your life was very happy but when you moved to another house, or built an extension, everything started to go wrong? As an exercise, think about your home right now. Close your eyes and picture it: what does it feel like? how do you feel about it? Your home is an extension of you and whatever you are feeling, and so your home in some way reflects what is happening in your life at the moment. You have selected your home and everything in it from the carpets to the ornaments. Even with articles that were gifts, you decicie where to put them, whether to hide them in the attic or display them on top of the mantelpiece. Is there an area of your house that is always dark and cluttered? If so, that area will relate to some aspect of yourself that is also dark and cluttered (at the moment). Your home is a constantly changing reflection of your life, so whatever changes you make in your home, you make to yourself. Although we all have our own separate fields of energy, we are all linked together and everything around us, animate and inanimate, has an influence. Feng shui's aim is to balance all these energies to ensure that we are harmoniously in accord with the universe so that the energy in our immediate surroundings, internally and externally can be as supportive as possible. Feng shui originated in China some 3,000 years ago, but since the 1950s, by a strange twist of fate, it has been officially banned there. Mao Tse Tung decided it was not an acceptable discipline and destroyed all the manuscripts he could find and imprisoned or punished all feng shui masters. Despite his attempts, though, Chairman Mao could not eliminate feng shui and to this day it is still widely practised in China, but with discretion. In the other countries of the East, feng shui is used as an essential part of life. When Western entrepreneurs set up business branches in Hong Kong, Singapore and parts of Malaysia, they had to use feng shui. This was because the local people put up a united front and simply refused to work in a building unless it had been approved by a feng shui consultant, which shows a phenomenal belief. Westerners gradually came to appreciate its benefits and the science has slowly travelled across the oceans to be used all over the world. Read this book to learn more about the subject, and you too will discover how to fill your life and home with health, wealth and happiness. opposite: Mirrors are like a virtual reality. They bring more energy into an area.
