Welcome to the Sequel the tricky "second album" the return After the success of the first Home House magazine, the challenge wasset and the bar raised. And so as we sat down in the early fog of January andstared at each other with a mixture of anticipation and trepidation, the cogsslowly began to turn and inspiration swelled. Would one of our longest standing membersand rock 'n roll legend, Roger Daltrey, be able to take time off from his last ever tour with TheWho to talk to us? What ditties would Dutty dit? Would we be able to cram in everythingthat had happened and will happen into one issue? Where should we start? At the beginningseemed like the most sensible option The New Year gave us time to take a fresh look at our surrounds, identifying where weneeded to refresh and refurbish to best effect; important when you can sometimes be dazzledby the sheer majesty and splendour of the House. Two of our bedrooms (Susan Thorpe andLady Charlotte's) will follow in the footsteps of The Terrace suite in 19 and be divided intofour separate suites to accommodate the ever increasing demand from those wishing to stayat the House. The lifts in 19 and 21 are being refurbished to ensure that those going up in theworld, do so in elevatorary style! And for those embarking on larger celebrations and eventsin both the Front Parlour and Eating Rooms, newly installed comfort-cooling will ensurethat all remain calm and collected, even in the steamy summer months.As we cast our gaze further, past the masterful facade and magnificent portico to the rear of20, we focussed once more on one of the jewels of the House - the Garden. As the eveningsgrew longer and the days warmer, the hours were counted until the true start of summer wascelebrated; not by the solar eclipse but by the return of the Raj tent and the alfresco menu.Talking of menus, an exciting new avenue of culinary invention was launched in the earlydays of New Year - the Clean Menu. Healthy, balanced and extremely delicious, the union ofour chef Adrian Martin and our celebrity trainer Jon Goodair (in culinary terms only mind!)has produced a most amazing result. Bereft of sugar and with only a mere hint of salt, themenu has been received with great enthusiasm (myself included). If you haven't already triedit, I urge you do so without delay.New art adorns the walls in the Restaurant, Bison Bar, Vestibule, Gloucester Rooms, andHouse Lounge. Under the expert eye of Charlie Smedley, a new collection of art from hisever increasing roster of artists gives a fresh perspective and conversation pieces - not least ofall the work of Sally Fuerst in the Bison Bar; fervent debate abounds but two canvases havebeen sold already as we go to print!I wish you all well for the summer months to come and leave you with a poetic sign off fromThomas Gray- "The untaught harmony of spring: While whisp'ring pleasure as they fly, Coolzephyrs thro'the clear blue sky, their gather'd fragrance fling".
