oWhen Oris was founded in 1904, its aim was to make quality watches using industrial production techniques. That same vision drives the company forward 110 years later I often find myself thinking about Oris's founding fathers and the first years of the company's life. Oris has been on the same site in the Swiss town of Holstein since 1904, when Paul Cattin and Georges Christian opened for business. It quickly became one of the most important employers in the region and its reputation as a producer of quality watches sold at sensible prices spread far and wide.I've had the responsibility and the pleasure of perpetuating the principles they established 110 years ago for more than three decades. I hope and I believe we've done a good job. Oris watches are made to a very high standard using industrial techniques, meaning we can continue to offer them to our customers at sensible prices.Sometimes wlien we describe our watches we talk about 'the luxury of common sense' - we create a luxury product that doesn't lose sight of reality. Our company strapline is 'real watches for real people', which takes the mantra further. This philosophy has made us lots of friends around the world because we make innovative, functional, aesthetically balanced, high-performance watches that are within the means of most watch lovers.In this our 110"' anniversary year, I have the pleasure of introducing you to the most innovativecollection of luxury watches we've ever developed. Our latest technical developments include the 10-day power reserve and patented non-linear power reserve indicator found in the Oris 110 Years Limited Edition. It's powered by the first in-house movement we've created in 35 years, a sign of our future plans and watchmaking ambitions.This year, we've also launched the world's first automatic mechanical watch that's also a mechanical altimeter. We've been making pilot's watches since 1938, when we made the first watch in our celebrated Big Crown line, but the Big Crown ProPilot Altimeter is an innovation apart. By being the first, we've backed up the claim we often make - that 'only Oris would do this'. That's also the case behind numerous innovations in our collection, many of which you'll find in this book.As with any of our watches, I'd like to think Mr Cattin and Mr Christian would approve of the new watches.
