It is perfectly possible to síim quickly, by just cutting down on all the socalled 'fattening' foods. The popularity of crash diets shows this. However, this weight loss is seldom permanent as no-one can stick to a very restricted diet for long. Doctors agree that it is far better to start a diet which will eventually altér your eating habits, allowing yourself all foods within reason, but just counting calories and making sure you stick to around 1,000 calories a day. Small weight losses over many weeks produce more permanent results than a spectacular weight loss in the first week of dieting and then nothing much after that. After the first two or three weeks of slimming, a weight loss of two pounds each week is a realistic goal and one which can be achieved without sacrificing sound nutrition. Since no single food provides all the nutrients we need in exactly the right quantities, we require a variety of foods each day. Even foods which we know are very nutritious, such as milk and liver, will not supply all the different nutrients we need. It is much easier to balance your meals if you classify foods, putting all similar foods together and then thinking of the whole group. Then, when working out your menüs, choose at least one food from each group. Protein foods These are the foods usually chosen for your main course and include meats, fish, eggs, cheese, poultry and bacon. One of the great advantages of protein foods for the slimmer is that they give a 'full up' feeling and keep you feeling satisfied for longer periods of time than other foods do, so they help you to stop nibbling between meals. Vegetables Most vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals and low in calories, so they can be eaten freely by slimmers. In addition, leafy vegetables provide cellulose (especially when eaten raw).
