For such a great expenditure, the home selected and its design ought to truly reflect the owner's needs, desires, and lifestyle. Too often though, money, energy, and time are spent in the pursuit or construction of a home and only later is it discovered that the home lacks quahties important to the homeowner. Most people feel uncomfortable wearing ill-fitting clothes, yet many live in untailored, off-the-rack homes designed for the "average" family. Perhaps the kitchen in an older home is too isolated for the new owner's "sit around the kitchen" entertaining style. Or maybe the bedrooms are too close to the family area, making a quiet bedtime difficult for early retirers.Small, annoying problems are often not noticed until after the owners move in. Then, as they begin to use the spaces, they may recognize inadequate storage, too little counter space, too few electrical outlets in critical areas, and so on.
