October 28, 1974iDear Colleague:I know that very soon your patients will be bringing you copies of The Save-Your-Lije Diet and asking you, "Doctor, what do you think of these ideas?" It is of course a sign of the confidence they place in you and your professional judgment. I know what your first reaction is likely to be because all of us have been in that position at one time or another. I admit that I used to smile indulgently on those occasions and murmur something liké, "Well, you know how those books are. By the way, have you been remembcring to takc your medicine regularly?" But this book is düferentand not because I wrote it. To be honest, you could have written the same book maybe even a bettei one- because we all have access to the same technical and scientific materíal. I hap-pened to write it because I am convinced that imple-menting the high-fibei diet has immense positive potential as a powerful tool of preventive medicine, especially in those areas where our ability to cure the patient is so limited.I consider this such a vitai question that I am going to ask you to do me one small favorbefore you make up your mind, and your patients' minds, on this most important issue.
