Dionysus' Heart
Dionysus was born of the love between heaven and earth. His father was Zeus and his mother a mortal called Semele. The nice youth, when he grew up into a man, was the victim of a vicious plot: the jealous Titans tore his body to pieces. Goddess Athena heard about this event too late, so she was unable to collect the scattered parts of the youth's body, but she found his heart and the first vine plant sprouted from this throbbing piece.
In many parts of this globe the legend
survives that when the Ark got stuck at the slope of a hill after the Flood, Noah set out and came back with a young vine shoot. He stuck this piece into the earth and declared the start of a new life. The other version runs thus: when the rains stopped a pigeon flew in front of Noah's Ark carrying the good news - that is the vine-stock - in its beak. Noah set off with this shoot and finally found the already growing vineyards.
Some intoxicated historians already gave this story a fine turn saying that Noah went for a walk after the Floods were over and touched the corpses of one dog, one cat, one lion and one swine with his stick. Then he stuck his stick driven into the blood of these animals into the earth, which sprouted and grew some berries. The fruit became wine, which made Noah slightly elevated. Those who saw him
