Prefaceto the 5th edition_J'Passing exams without anxiety?' is the first sceptical question that is asked about this book. The answer to the question is 'Yes' and the success of this book is due, in large part, to the fact that it contains the solutions to problems offered by hundreds of students tackling every form of examination. These range from school-based tests, GCSEs and A levels to vocational and professional qualifications, degrees and postgraduate qualifications. Here you will find ways to tackle coursework and revision by using the ideas of students who have converted panic and anxiety into focused energy and used this energy to be successful in exams. You will find hundreds of ideas to help you transform nervous anxiety into a balanced, positive approach to coursework, revision and exams. The fifth edition has been completely revised and made even easier to read and use. The new ideas added to the last edition include extra guidelines on the use of computers and portfolios; more tips for GCSE students and ideas for part-time students or those returning to study. Parents of students and teachers will find tips on how they can be helpful throughout the book and especially in Chapter 7.I would like to thank all those who have so generously offered their time and ideas over the years. For this fifth edition, I would particularly like to thank Sandra Graham and Sylvia Thomas for their detailed comments and suggested amendments to the text. In addition, they have contributed examples of their experiences as students who successfully returned to study. It is difficult to acknowledge everybody by name but I would like to mention those who have contributed specific examples and who have made helpful contributions to the text: John Acres, Kate Acres, Gail Cann, Roger Catchpole, Anna Fahdi, John Jenkinson (for his figure drawings), Jo McCaren, Guy Nelson and the sixth-formers of Sackville School (East Grinstead), Margaret Oliver, Roma Thomas, Colin Richman, Wendy Trott, Carol Turley, Katherine Turner, Cathy Warburton and Kevin
